PANDA experiments within the OECD/NEA HYMERES-2 project on containment hydrogen distribution, thermal radiation and suppression pool phenomena

In this article, we summarize the experimental results obtained in large-scale thermal-hydraulics PANDA facility (PSI, Switzerland) within OECD/NEA HYMERES2 project. The experiments addressing hydrogen distribution allowed characterizing flow patterns forming from jet flows impacting plates or grating platforms and following interaction with a postulated cloud containment dome. activation of safety components to compare effects multiple spray nozzles single nozzle cooler units unique assess scalability related thermal hydraulics phenomena such as pressure histories, power removed, gas mixture distribution. radiation confirmed that presence steam atmosphere even at very low concentration (in order 0.1 %) has significant impact on evolution temperature. studying suppression pool provided insight formation stability thermocline under variety release conditions, e.g. load reduction rings multi-hole sparger; moreover characterize histories function sparger submergence pool.
